August 9, 2013 IMDb Top 100
It’s actually the Top 250, but after 100 the list gets more and more ridiculous and I couldn’t bring myself to deal with it. Case in point: Star Trek Into Darkness is listed at 201. It was an okay enough movie, but 201 of all time? And the fact that 2009’s Star Trek is listed at 228 makes it even more ridiculous, as that one was way better than Into Darkness, even if it also does not belong in the all-time top 250. Agent Kay in Men in Black said, “A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.” and I can’t help but think he’d been reading the IMDb rankings.
So of the top 100 ranked movies on IMDb I have seen 68. The unseen ones are listed below, grouped by my interest in eventually seeing them:

D’oh! I’m one shy of you but will tie you when I finally watch that copy of The Departed I have at home. Also: four of your unseen ones are movies I own. You should feel more strongly about City Lights. Watch it on a date night – it’s adorable.
And there is NO EXCUSE for not having seen Singin’ in the Rain.

For the record, you’re the main reason The Apartment is on my “too watch” list. I remember you spoke very highly of it often.
Musicals and I have a “it’s complicated” relationship. Little Shop of Horrors: awesome. Oklahoma: one of my least favorite things ever. So I’m not anxious to jump into many…!

I hate Rodgers & Hammerstein. Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor, on the other hand, are golden. I strongly feel you will like Singin’ in the Rain, but I could be wrong.

I will add it to my queue!

American History X will definitely fall on the lower right of your movie quadrant. Also, give Lawrence of Arabia a chance! It’s the same length as Gone with the Wind but WAAAAY better.

AHX: I kind of know that about that movie already, which is why I haven’t watched it yet!
LoA: I just can’t work up the interest!

Also, you’ve seen Grave of the Fireflies?! Nice work!

I think that “Life is Beautiful” and “The Pianist” should get bumped up in priority some. A couple of my favorites. Don’t let other Holocaust films slant your view. “Pianist” is more of a character-driven adventure thing with large portions of very little dialogue (but acted well enough to get the Oscar anyway). “Life Is Beautiful” is like a duet of genre – the first half feels more like classic slapstick and uniquely augments how you feel about the character through the second half.

Wait, I screwed up! I’ve seen The Pianist. It’s The Piano I haven’t seen. Ack!

69, and parts of others.
There’s more good on your second list than your first.
I thought I’d never be interested in Lawrence of Arabia, but ended up watching it with my sons a few years ago. I think I’ve seen it twice since. Really good.
