October 23, 2014 Avengers: Age of Ultron
After someone leaked a bootleg copy (which got hilariously blamed on Hydra), Marvel went ahead and released the trailer for the next Avengers movie yesterday. I’m sure you’ve already seen it, but just in case you haven’t, here it is:
- James Spader’s voice is chilling
- What’s going on with the Hulk? Several shots of Banner not looking so good, and then Hulk’s fighting with Iron Man. Speaking of…
- HULKBUSTER IRON MAN!
- Ultron is the creepiest looking robot in a long time
- Lots of shots of the Avengers by themselves. Hmm.
- I don’t know enough about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to know what their deals are (other than that House of M stuff Scarlet Witch does, but there’s no X-Men in the MCU, so I dunno)
- Black Widow launches a motorcycle out of a plane! Explain to me why she doesn’t have her own movie yet? I think she and May from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. should just go around kicking everyone’s butts.
- I don’t envy the MCU having to handle Quicksilver after this summer’s X:Men: Days of Future Past did such an amazing job with him
- Shirtless Thor and some ballerinas: two completely different types of fan service in action!
- I don’t even know what can break Cap’s shield, but I don’t like it one bit, no, sir.
The overall tone seems darker and more serious, and that worries me a bit, but I trust the team. Joss Whedon’s pretty good at weaving humor in with the dark.
Are you excited??

The internet seems to have inferred from the trailer (and the rumors that Stark is a villain in Cap. 3) that this movie sets up Iron Man vs. the Avengers.
I have a largely unfounded hypothesis that Jarvis is going to be the origin of both Ultron and Vision.

I know Marvel is planning to do Civil War stuff next, so it could all be a setup for that. I always had a hard time assigning “hero” or “villain” to folks in Civil War, though. Well, other than the government in general, but that’s not limited to comics :D
